My though is that if person is actually standing on place and swinging their sword is that its ok. But when the person is not even at the PC and its making money itself, its bad.
I just tested it and its one of the only ways to get money because our economics are ruined. Ppl have like 10K or more money and nobody buys anything for reasonable price in chest shops. This means that if you spend your time gathering valuable stuff (for example obsidian) you have no chance to sell it for some reasonable profit (compared to pxl makers).
However if there is no allowed way to use mob collectors for money i will disable skytown´s collector.

Maybe we should just remove the plugin to make pxlz by killing mobs.
It's true, our currency is going down..
It's much harder to get one gold ingot than just kill 5 zombies.
Selling sulphur is getting abused.. by the way.

what about mob traps that kill the mobs for the player so they can get the drops are those allowed?

Speckner had a mom grinder under his house (for items and without our knowing) when we told him to fill it in when he left, he just filled in the walkways and bla bla... Anywho I cleared out a path to find a wall blocking the mobs from getting to the end. Got rid of it and modified it a little so I can kill them when they flow down to me. I need armor and food because they still easily hit me. This is already planned to be removed when the town mob grinder starts construction, just want to know if I should fill it in now because it's a violation or not.

Okay, to be fair, let us list down the advantages and disadvantages of the mob trap.
For the advantages, first: able to collect string, feather etc easily
second, can make pxls easily
third, works as an alternative instead of mining continously, to make money, which makes it more fun.
Forth, its a cool thing to have
As for the disadvantages, first: as some had said, made earnings pxl too easy through it instead of normal mining.
Second, horribly unfair to those who gain pxls through the traditional way of mining
third, may spark riots due to people snatching over it for chance to use.
Fourth, people get jealous.
Some solutions would be, first: ban mob traps completely (fine like 1k pxls if refuse to listen. )
Second, change amoumt of pxls earned per hostile mob to like 3pxls maximum. Pigs etc 1 pxl max.
Third, build your own one
fourth, raise the prices or diamond, iron etc up.
I hope this may help to the solution of the problem. Thank you.

So I'm guessing the only legal mob trap is in Indigo. Lol.
And I like davons suggestion as a solution, build your own one.

Jumping in on this topic a little late.
Mob trap, Pixl trap
I personally don't think that a mob trap should used to make pixl, it breaks the whole process of fighting mobs.
And in a sense a mob trap is also exploiting that fact as well, but it has become so normal to a every day
minecrafter tool that has become a necessity.
Bottom line
I say ban pixl traps, but allow mob traps.
Economy
Our economy is based on laziness if people don't want to go mining or hunting for the item they will just buy it.
Everyone can do everything, there is no way to specialize or have a profession that allows them self's to strive,
or to set them self's from the rest. One person could just log in and make a entire plantation, while the guy who
has been selling plants will be out of luck because anyone could do his job, that goes double for mining.
The problem with are economy is that everyone can do everyone else's job and there is no point to buying and
selling, unless there to tired, rich, poor, or lazy. What we need is not a money reset, but a way to make us different
from the rest, to make people who have been mining all the time better, or making people who have been farming better,
a way to give people a "foot hold" a specialization. Like how you would go to a farm for food, or go to a miner for ores,
go to a banker to store money, a shoe maker for shoes....
Bottom line
Economy based on laziness, no money reset, Specializations.
