Just read a suggestion about a start-kit for the hp-server..
How about a book like the "getting started" topic for every new player?

That would be great. I had serious connection problems today so I visited some servers and I received a book like that in one of em. A shame they didn't write much in it though.
And if players have a rule book with them they don't need the board anymore and can be tested and made a member ingame right? Lots of guests remain guest forever cause they don't understand the board :/
Of course we need to maintain the board, I can't imagine HPminecraft without its board xD

Perhaps a video explaining the rules and ropes to the server, with a quiz at the end, and if you get 100% your get made member.

How about a kind of adventureworld, wich you have to solve to become member?

Possible, in fact there are many possible ways of executing an easier getting started environment, we just have to agree on something.

...or, you could make a "question-maze". When choosing the right answer you take the right way and you find the exit into the main world...

Good idea, but its been done before on other servers, perhaps somthing a little more unique?

Good idea Bartacula. I like it to give a book to new players.
All other ideas are nice as well, but we continue going on with our board application system.

A member should be available on the board. Means that we can send them messages when beeing offline.
Thats why we have memberships linked with our board (as well as the MOC which make things easier).

I am not sure how to create a written book and spawn it for a player. But I'm sure that it's possible
with some bukkit (HPMCore) java code..

Who wants to write it?
